Issues of Cabin Air Filter- Only System

Vehicle Interior

FIRGUE A. Cabin filter mounted on engine compartment

Issue#1.   Because the cabin filter is located in the outside air intake, mold and bacteria emitted from the evaporator enter the vehicle interior directly without being filtered. This also means that while external contaminants pass through the cabin air filter, the filtered air becomes contaminated again as it passes through the evaporator.  Therefore, the  cabin filter has no effect.
Issue#2.   Cabin filters cannot filter the air inside a vehicle in situ. Instead, the air inside is sent to the cabin air filter.
How does the cabin filter mounted on the air intake filter the air inside the car?

Setting recirculation air mode, blocks external intake and instead recirculates the air already in the cabin, filtering out polluted air inside the car and reintroducing it into the car. However, one thing to note is that it only applies to vehicles equipped with a cabin filter in the glove box. Those cabin filter mounted in engine compartment is designed to filter outside air onlySo, the recirculated air flows back into the cabin unfiltered.  Therefore, the  cabin filter has no effect.

FIRGUE A. Cabin filter mounted on grove box

Issue#3. Cabin filters installed in Grove boxes are designed to filter in both fresh air and recirculating modes.
However, the problem is that as the filtered air passes through the evaporator, it mixes with mold and bacteria released from the evaporator and flows directly into the vehicle cabin unfiltered.

Result: The effectivenss of cabin filter is negative.
Issue#4. Limited filtration ability. The highest filtration grade HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter can filter down to 0.3 microns in diameter. On the other hand, the most harmful air pollutants, such as PM2.5 and viruses, are around 0.1 micron or less than 0.1 micron in diameter. Therefore, the standard cabin air filters used in most vehicles may not be an effective barrier to fine exhaust particles PM2.5.

Upgrading Advanced Cabin Air Filtration System, Cabin Air Sterilizer, is the answer the solve this issue.
